Welcome Davina Hanchuck – Girly Geek of the Week!
We have another amazing Salesforce Super Mom this week! Davina is a mother of 3 children, a Certified Advanced Administrator & Developer with 5+ years experience, and is the Co-Leader of the Tampa Bay User Group! In her own words “I’m passionate about the unique and incredible Salesforce Community! I get excited about leveraging and learning all of the tools I have available to me to help facilitate growth and success within my company and sharing what knowledge I have picked up over the years. I’m building a career on the Salesforce1 Platform!”
Me: How & when did you start working with Salesforce?
Davina: In 2006, the start up company I was with needed a CRM solution. It was actually my husband, who at the time was a sales rep for the same company, who suggested it and I implemented it. After a year that company went under, and I was fearful my love affair with Salesforce was over. Fast forward a year or so, and the company I ended up at wanted to implement Salesforce. Funny story, but my husband was a sales rep at that company too, and he suggested I help with the implementation since I had prior experience with it. The rest is history. Salesforce Love! ❤ Congrats on taking advantage of an opportunity and running with it!
Me: What is your current role working with Salesforce?
Davina: I just started a new Salesforce adventure as a Business Systems Analyst. It’s an exciting opportunity to help another company implement Salesforce and fully leverage its capabilities. Congrats on the new gig!
Me: What is your favorite thing to do in Salesforce and why?
Davina: Configuration and Automation. I love the creative aspect of being able to architect a solution for a complex business process, and nothing excites me more when I get to make things “auto-magically” happen with Processes & Workflows! There is really nothing better than demoing something you created and hearing that “Wow!” or “Yes!” I totally agree! Best feeling ever and so empowering!
Me: Are you currently certified? And if so what certifications do you hold?
Davina: I have three certifications. Admin, Advanced Admin and Dev. I’m very proud of my certs and look forward to adding even more to my collection! Trifecta! Good Luck on your future certs! 🙂
Me: What are some of your aspirations and/or goals when it comes to Salesforce?
Davina: I want to learn to code. Not necessarily because that is the career path I want to take, but because I really struggle to wrap my head around code. I come from a Sales and Marketing background, and was more or less an “accidental admin”. Learning to code is just that next personal challenge I would like to overcome. Same!!! Although I wouldn’t mind coding just a little 😉
Me: Do you have any advice for women working with Salesforce?
Davina: Don’t sell yourself short. I spent a very long time settling for less than I deserved because I didn’t realize how valuable the skills I gained through Salesforce actually were. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. Life is too short to sit back and hope for that promotion, that project or that recognition. If you feel like you deserve it, or at least want to try it…be vocal and GO FOR IT! Also, do things that scare you. I have grown leaps and bounds over the past few years by pushing myself out of my comfort zone, and it has placed amazing opportunities at me feet. #Truth! Fantastic advice!!
Me: What kinds of things are you involved in, and/or do you like to do outside of the Salesforce world?
Davina: I serve a local diaper bank by managing a Salesforce Org that I set them up with through the Salesforce Foundation. It is so gratifying to be able to use my skills to give back to my community and help moms in need. I’m a mom myself to three kids that constantly keep me on my toes! I also co-lead the Tampa Bay User Group! WOW! That is amazing! and you have 3 children of your own – I am virtually bowing down to you – I only have 1!
Me: Are you part of a Girly Geeks Chapter?
Davina: Of course! I help out with the Central Florida Girly Geeks chapter. We are working on generating some buzz about the group and getting the word out. We get together once a month and have dinner and drinks with great company! 🙂
It was a pleasure getting to know you Davina and thank you very much for sharing! You are definitely an inspiration!
