Welcome Kim McClure – Girly Geek of the Week!
I am really excited to feature Kim McClure this week! Kim is 6X Certified!! This is the first 6X certified GGOTW that has been featured! 🙂 Kim is also a #Supermom, Dreamforce Speaker and Women In Tech Leader who is a lover of Disney! I have to say, I am now too because they own the Star Wars Franchise :D!
Me: How & when did you start working with Salesforce?
Kim: I was managing a support team when my company went through an acquisition in 2009. I was given Salesforce as a side project to get the newly combined support teams up and running. I fell in love with the platform. I slowly started working through each part of the system piece by piece and helped the company see the potential. From being a solo admin as a side project to Business Systems Manager for 450+ users (still solo admin) – I knew I had found a new career path. That is an amazing opportunity you were given and congrats to you for taking that opportunity and making it into a career!! ❤
Me: What is your current role working with Salesforce?
Kim: After seeing the possibilities evolve through the years, I made a career shift a year ago to take it to another level. I’m now a Salesforce Consultant with Simplus located in Sandy, Utah. Congrats!! This is a very common progression for admins 🙂
Me: What is your favorite thing to do in Salesforce and why?
Kim: Show others how easy it can be and share the excitement! There is nothing I love more than working with a customer and seeing them have their “ah-ha” moment. Anything I can do to help them streamline processes by showing shortcuts, automating something, scheduling a report or empowering them with the tools available. Don’t get me wrong, I love all the fancy stuff too, but even the session I presented at Dreamforce was about the simple things that get overlooked and forgotten. I love to find out of the box solutions for pain points. I feel like this is such an ‘across the board’ feeling for admins/devs/consultants – I absolutely love this as well! I compare it to sales people getting the sale/closing the deal – only we get that excitement more often! 😀
Me: Are you currently certified? And if so what certifications do you hold?
Kim: Yes – I have 6! Admin, Advanced Admin, Force.com Developer, Sales Cloud Consultant, Service Cloud Consultant, Platform App Builder. WOOHOO!!! That is amazing and congrats to you!!! I am hoping to have either 5 or 6 by the end of the year!
Me: What are some of your aspirations and/or goals when it comes to Salesforce?
Kim: More BADGES! I love Trailhead and the opportunity it provides to get hands on, have a check built in to tell me when I made a wrong turn and not just “book learn” something. It’s also time to kick everything up a notch – slowly dip into code and find even more creative ways to provide click path alternatives. Couldn’t agree more!
Me: Do you have any advice for women working with Salesforce?
Kim: Be a part of the community. Even if you are quiet and just watch from the sidelines at first. I can’t say enough about the power of this community. It picks you up when you are down, reminds you that you are sane when you think you are crazy and can’t figure something out and has so much compassion. The community is my home away from home. #TRUTH! please dive into the Success Community if you have not! I also agree that it is the most amazing community I have EVER been a part of!
Me: What kinds of things are you involved in, and/or do you like to do outside of the Salesforce world?
Kim: I have a beautiful 14 yr. old daughter and wonderful husband. When I’m not spending time with them or Salesforce, I’m curled up with a book. I’ve always been an avid reader and can’t get enough. I’m also a Disney fan at heart. One of the highlights of Dreamforce for me is those few stolen hours when I get into San Fran early before everything gets started and I sneak over to the Walt Disney Family Museum. I can never have too much Disney anything! ❤
Me: Are you part of a Girly Geeks Chapter?
Kim: I’m the User Group Leader of the Salt Lake City Women in Tech and absolutely adore them. I have found a great strength within this group. I love my Raleigh Women In Tech group as well! I have made so many wonderful friendships through the group!
It was a pleasure getting to know you Kim and thank you very much for sharing!
You are definitely an inspiration!
